As we head into our 15th year of the Winter Lacrosse season I am proud to announce that Ethan Forgrave, Maurice Kelly and Tristan Rai will be taking over the leadership of North Strong Lacrosse.
All three bring an impressive combination of Senior A, NCAA or university lacrosse, professional, international and coaching experience. More importantly, they share a passion for growing the game and creating greater opportunities for young players throughout Northern Alberta. After leading North Strong, I believe the time is right to pass the program on to a new generation of leaders. Ethan, Maurice and Tristan will bring fresh ideas, renewed energy and a modern approach to player development. Their goal is to take lacrosse in Northern Alberta to a higher level, increase participation and create more meaningful opportunities for both male and female players.
MAURICE KELLY - Maurice played minor lacrosse with the Fort Saskatchewan Rebels before moving on to Junior A with the Edmonton Blues and Edmonton Miners. He played NCAA lacrosse at Chestnut Hill College and competed in Senior A with the Coquitlam Adanacs of the Western Lacrosse Association. Maurice brings high-level playing experience and a strong commitment to developing the next generation of Alberta lacrosse players.ETHAN FORGRAVE - Ethan played minor lacrosse with the Edmonton Warriors before playing Junior A for the Edmonton Miners. He was selected by the Saskatchewan Rush in the 2022 NLL Draft and played four years of university lacrosse at McGill. Ethan has coached with North Strong Lacrosse and the Edmonton Razorbacks for the past six years. He also spent six years training under Jimmy Quinlan through the Vimy Lacrosse program.
TRISTAN RAI - Tristan grew up in Edmonton and played minor lacrosse with the Edmonton Warriors. He went on to play NCAA Division I lacrosse at Lehigh University before playing two seasons in the National Lacrosse League. Tristan also brings international experience, having represented Team Australia. His experience at the NCAA, professional and international levels will provide North Strong athletes with valuable insight into what it takes to compete at the highest levels of the game.
The entire camp winter will be run at the Turf Training Center 4, located at 1030 34th Avenue in Nisku, Alberta. This is an indoor turf facility without boards. The facility will be fully netted and there will be box nets and creases for us to work with. Our entire focus is on developing skills in passing, catching, shooting and cradling. Our box goalies will still receive the training they require to develop their ball stopping skills. The facility will be perfect for us to work with players to improve their skills and become better overall lacrosse players.
Learning lacrosse skills is of paramount importance as it serves as the foundation for the growth and development of both individual players and the sport as a whole. By learning the basic skills such as stick handling, passing, shooting, and defensive maneuvers, athletes can excel on the field, enhancing their confidence and performance. Additionally, through structured coaching, players not only acquire these physical skills but also develop a deep understanding of game strategies and team play.
